Blessings for man’s best friend
07/16/2009
Mati Waiya of the Chumash tribe cleanses animals, like little Peewee here — a 5-year-old teacup brindle poodle — with a traditional blessing outside Linda’s Claws and Paws on Sunday afternoon on July 11 in midtown Ventura. In his ritual cleansings, Waiya uses a conkshell, incense, eagle feathers, as well as tobacco on animals ranging from turtles to dogs and even personal items and people.
